Yes.  You're right, I do tend to beat myself up all during the night.  My mind just seems to get ahold of something & then runs full-tilt-boogie....my mind just goes too fast and I play heck just catching up with it.  Thanks for your comments....you've helped me with your gentle reminder of my human frailties and that I don't have to beat myself up ALL night long.

As usual, you are great at reminding me of what's important - we learn by listening.  Thanks for the reminder.

Yea, I like the image of the TWO ears & ONE mouth image....I use it quite abit ( I need to since I do put my mouth into gear sometimes BEFORE I engage my brain).  I can relate to your comment about fear ruling our lives too much.  Fear (and guilt) seem to drive my life WAY too much, even when I'm aware of what I  should be doing instead.  For me, the only way I've found so far to change my behavior and release it....is to keep reminding myself of what I need to do. (sometimes an hourly event).  If it's "after the fact" (for me this is the usual case), then I try to review the situation, try to figure out what I SHOULD have done, rehearse the "new" scenario in my mind, and then resolve to change my behavior in the future.  Doesn't always work...but I have noticed some slight improvements over time.

Avant-garde

We must've seen the same Winston Churchill billboard....was it the one with the egret & frog?  Where the egret has tried to swallow the frog, but can't because the frog has gotten hold of the egrets' throat & is strangling the egret?  Great visual for "never, ever give up."

Hey!!
It seems that beating yourself up all night is really self-defeating. You are a human being, subject to human emotions. As long as you express emotionand feel things deeply, at least you know that you are alive..  Schree`

nice post

I have to constantly remind myself to hush and listen. We can learn a lot just by listening to what's going on around us

I have to admit, that I have let fear rule my life far, far too much--but being conscious of the behavior (and unhappy with the choice) doesn't seem enough to allow me to release it.

This was great: God gave us TWO ears and only ONE mouth, so we should listen more than we speak;

great thoughts. i saw a billboard of winston churchhill where he says, 'don't ever, ever, ever give up.' that is inspiring. the battle of britain was one of the darkest times of english history. he marshalled an entire country in its resolve not to be overcome by germany.
