SilverMoon7 said exactly what I was thinking as I read this!

Interesting how someone being late for work and having to catch a different bus was, likely, what ended up--at the very least--keeping personal belongings from being stolen and, likely, saved at least one life, as this Snaggle-Tooth guy would have surely chosen another victim and one who might not have energized the others with the degree of courage demonstrated by Sonya.

Not only did she save herself by last-minute action, but her being late saved a busload of people a lot of grief, and possibly a life or two.  Good story, word.smith.  this is the first of yours I've read.
