There seems
to be some similarities with the babaylanes we have in the mountains of Antique.  They do have some sort of satanic rituals, but I am not sure whether their adoption of Satan is due to their poverty or because they feel the need to rebel against a Church that is seen as responsible for the destruction of their religion.  The babaylanes had a religion where women were leaders.

padre, the only satanists that I know are kids on the Navajo Indian

Reservation in New Mexico. It is believed that they seek this belief because they find no good in their very economically deprived lives and seek some power in life. They cannot have economic power, nor powerful employment, nor authoritative power in the community as leaders, or whatever. So, they seek some mystical power in Satan.

I then attaches itself to drugs and drinking and destructive behavior and they begin to plague the general community, driving trucks through cemeteries, etc. In the big YAHOO of driving over sacred things, their anger is appeased and they feel powerful for a moment.

Mike Warnke, now a Christian, was once into Satanism and wrote
that there was a major network in the government and in business.  The kids who get into it are dangerous in one way, but those in higher positions are the ones who are a real danger to us all.
