Thank you so very much for the kind words! I agree that there are some moral truths that just cannot be denied by thinking people, like the ones you cited.  I was just somewhat astounded at the rapid and rabid blame pointing posts that were flying around here before facts were even out...and they still aren't...about what happened....and forget how obvious it was folks didn't have a clue what the laws we have governing how these things run....and people saying they were ashamed to be American.  I got so depressed I had to quit reading everything for a couple of days...then I remembered my own workshop...

Thanks! I'm craving shortbread, too....and will be buying some soon, you can bet.  I like Greta and Geraldo, too...and I agree Fox leans right, but not as much as CNN leans left! I try to get a full view by watching a variety, but find that the whole flavor of Fox fits me better.  Actually, my favorite straight news is Jim Lehr News Hour...they take the time to really interview, aske the questions I want asked and let me decide for myself what I heard. Thanks for reading and for the comments.

This is a great well-rounded piece of writing. Part of me wishes (as a reader) that you had let the story of the shortbread stand on its on--it was a pleasant story in itself. However, I understand why you needed it as an introduction to your opinion piece.

You bring up an intriguing observation about the two worlds of American--a CNN world and a FOX world.

That being said, I wish you would edit this piece and take out you IMHOs out of it. I don't feel it is necessary to qualify your statements with IMHO. . , and I kind of feel it litters a wonderful piece IMHO.

I can't believe more people didn't comment on this!! As I'm reading, in the back of my mind I'm thinking: oh boy, she's going to take some heat for saying that. People are so stuck in their ways (their personal paradigm), and you approached it very thoughtfully, but I still expected some heated discussion.

The story was great and it took an unexpected turn. I'm still of the opinion that the woman was too generous in appeasing the stranger and, ultimately, if she spoke her mind rather than simply thinking nasty thoughts, the situation would have been remedied sooner. Granted, she would have been out of line, but she also might have avoided that inevitable brain hemorrhage that comes from this kind of 'problem solving' technique.

There are different facets to truth, but I do believe there is a kind of 'Natural Law' Truth that we all can choose to acknowledge or deny, i.e. it's wrong to murder; it's wrong to abuse children, etc. The problem with politics is that we look at it through an 'either/or' paradigm, because they're only two parties of significance in the U.S. Most people don't take the time to consider an issue, they just find out what their respective party line is and then use recycled rhetoric as if it's their own conclusion. "How do you feel about abortion?" "I'll get back to you on that one; I have to consult Brad Pitt." This two Americas is a relatively new phenomenon that we've kind of all just accepted, but I believe it was Honest Abe who once said, "A house divided cannot stand." I agree that they're several legit vantage points to view a problem from, but I also think that it should be okay to say when somebody is dead wrong.

I LOVE THIS POST! Thank you for taking the time to do it right.

Krisles...I want some Shortbread, now!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed your post, chock full of good nuggets....I like MSNBC as well as Fox and CNN. I think Fox does slant more right than most folks realize, but they, too, do a great job. I love Greta Van Susteren and Geraldo is my favorite. And they are both now on FOX. I know plenty abhor Geraldo, but I think he is very bright, yes, dramatic, and good at tackling a problem..
