Factor, I'm glad you have fond memories of Melbourne. I don't think I've ever had celery like that, so I'm not going to be much of a help. But if I ever visit that winery...

We enjoyed Melbourne.
We spent few days there back in ummm November of 1993. The travel agent put us in a downtown hotel. But since we weren't in Australia to shop and do the city experience we wound up doing daytrips outside Melbourne. One day we went to a winery where we also ate lunch. They had this unique celery casserole as a veggie which I have never seen anything like or a recipe for since. (Of course it is not like I devoted my life to finding one, but I have looked now and then...)
Fond memories of Melbourne anyway....

So, CA88...
all things considered, is it true that Melbourne is where we would find Mel born?

I don't want to stay there, I just want to fly out there for a day. Trust me, there are too many deadly things in the outback for me...nope, I am with you, I want my shopping close! LOL~~ I think maybe I am spoiled when it comes to that!!

Offbeats - you weren't silly to go to Sydney, its not a bad place, but Melbourne is so much better! lol Ayres Rock is now called Ularu and I've never been there but understand it is beautiful. I must admit, I'm a real city girl and the outback does nothing for me.

Now that sounds like a plan! Like most silly Americans I have only been to Sydney and I want to see more. Ares(spelling) Rock. They say it is spiritual.quest, a place of mystery. I know it is a long way though. You have a big country and a beautiful one at that. Watch out for those New Zealanders, they are a serious people, you can tell Great Britian had her hand in that country too! Love it!

It sounds wonderful. I have never been there, it is a long trip. At 170 she is still a baby, do you have something like our Independence Day? Also at 170, I bet the US did not have as many holidays as we do now, that being one good thing about growing older as a nation. I do recall hearing of ad's in the 70's calling for people to move down under and getting paid a rather handsome fee. Hope your weather clears so you can enjoy this birthday!

May - hmmm the climate thing is a bit of a worry. Its certainly the one thing I dislike about Melbourne! However, there are many people that disagree with me. I will enjoy the big legs - especially watching the haka... lol

Ca88andra, the most livable city - that's pretty good isn't it? I wonder how they determined the climate section. I hope you enjoy looking at those big legs ;-)
