Mcgarnagle
you need to go way back and read.  This is not someone who needs straight talk, he is someone who is trying to function in the real world with a very serious condition that instead of getting better has gotten worse.  Uni is trying like hell to make a normal life for himself under the toughest of circunstances.  Do not judge until you know the entire story.  In the meantime pick up the movie "A Beautiful Mind" while I am sure it's not 100% accurate as to what UNi goes through maybe it will give you enough insight to understand.

Hey, that's some incredible news! Sounds like your boss has a
compassionate and understanding bone in him.  Good for you!

Wow

Well, I'm not going to propose I know anything about you or your condition but I've read a handful of your posts and it just makes me wonder...why?  I'm wondering if you're a twenty-something person who has recently finished school?  Or some similar scenario.  You sound as if you're going through what everyone who begins working goes through, which is that it's not fun.  It's a "breaking" process, where you have to stop playing video games and go to work...like everyone else.  I'm sorry, but you seem you like you need some straight talk, not the sugar-coated BS that people sometimes feed others to make them feel better and "normal".

News flash!  No one is normal, no one is stable, no one likes to work, everyone has ADD, everyone feels mental sometimes, everyone wishes they could quit their job and hang out at home all day.  Then there's life.  Your obligation to be part of the bigger picture, your obligation to the original life force that somewhere in time gave birth to your ancestors.  Your blood line represents the orignal life force on Earth, thin about how deep that goes.  Think about the hard times that your ancestors had through the milennia.  Think about what it is that you can't seem to handle.  Your problem is that life is too easy!  You have too much time to consider your fate, a luxury that man has only come to view as a problem in the past 50 years of our existence.

If you want to sink in to the depths of Mordor, you can embrace your weaknesses.  If you want to be the head-case that everyone avoids and baby's the rest of your life, continue to indulge in the illnesses you've concocted to return to the womb.  But I must piont out, in previous posts you sound pretty lucid and on task when you describe the role-playing games you're obsessed with.  In your detailed descriptions of how you like to play the games and your roles, I'm sure you didn't need a pad of paper next to you to write down where you lost your place.  There were likely no moments where you forgot what you were doing.  The reason?  Because you're interested in video games, it's what you love.  You're not likely very interested in the job you have, which I'm assuming is IT-related.  Know this, most people I know hate their jobs (especially IT people).

Please understand, I'm not spitting venom in your eyes.  I'm talking to you the same way I'd talk to a good friend and I'm taking the time to tell you things you need to hear.  Don't simply dismiss this as mean-spirited  and continue on the path.  If I'm hurting your feelings it's only because you're seeig the truth in what I've said.  If I'm wrong, you'll be able to shrug me off with confidence.

You need to change your attitude and stand up on your feet.  Brave the reality you long to escape before you lose your opportunities and become mired in the medical pursuit of happiness.  It may just save your life.  Remember, when you're starting out, you're not in control of your work-life, but stick with it and you'll have options and one day you'll have a new outlook on it.  Give up now and you'll be surrendering control forever.  It's control that you crave Dungeon Master, don't live in the dreamworld like a recluse, stick your head up and smell the reality outside your door.  I get down sometimes too, today is one of those days but I know that tomorrow will be better.  If not, what else is there?

Good for you!
I'm glad you guys found an arrangment that'll hopefully work for you.  As I've learned, sometimes all you need to do is ask for help and understanding and you'll get it.

what did you do?

You went in and showed the decency and consideration that most so called "healthy" people don't.  You put the good of his company first.  If I had a business, I would want someone like you working for it.

Good for you!!!  I am so happy for you!
