Thanks Donald, I would be interested in finding out if that site works.

word.smith - Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I'm going to...
look at some of the free sites. If I decide to sign up with guru and if it works out, I'll let you know. Thank you for taking the time to advise me on this.

Katray,

No problem...Hope that post helps. Doing the query letter slows me down too. Sometimes, I can't be bothered and much prefer those publications that I can just send my submission without the query. Still, for the peachier jobs, the query letter is a must and it is to our advantage to learn how.

Donald,

Sorry, I don't have any experience with either site, 'cept maybe a short visit.  A few people say bidding sites work for them, but I dunno.  That a lot of money to shell out, not knowing whether I'd be getting jobs for sure.

If you have any proof to back up guru's claim that you'll get some work, you could try it out, otherwise there are so many sites out there where you can get gigs for free.   I notice that they have some pretty impressive figures as money earned by their freelancers. The only way you would know is to try it out, but I'd suggest a couple of searches to check their reputation. I'm not sure I'd trust the glowing testimonials that may be on their site. I hate to be a cynic, but there ya go...I'm afaid I've not been of much help after that ramble.

So informative and easy to grasp
Thank you Word. I'll be watching for your query letter post - that always intimidates me and halts the process, for some reason.

Question. Slightly off topic, but I thought you'd be the person...
to ask. I started to join elance.com, but heard some bad reports and was referred to guru.com. I'm wondering if you have any experience with either of these freelance bidding sites. Thanks! PS: guru.com has tons of projects and the quarterly registration fee is $75 US.

Ms. word.smith...how generous of you, especially those darn query letters..
This post was chock-full of useful tips for all writers. Query letters can make you or break you, at times. Good points. Thanks
