I can't agree with the banning of backpacks, mainly because my Jansport is the only purse big enough to hold all my magazines, and book, and writers notebook. College students trying to be economically friendly will run into similar problems.

You Guys...
...just keep on getting funnier!

You make a connection between what I said and left-wing loonies - am I the only one who can't see that connection? Or is it just that there's not one there?

I suspect the latter.

Blowing people up in the name of a political agenda - and for me, it's irrelevent whether you do that on a crowded bus with a backpack, or you bomb an Iraqi wedding party from the air - is criminal behaviour, for sure.

However, terrorism is a tactic and, like it or not, it has been very successful over the years.

You lot used terror tactics to get the Brits out of America.
The Indians used it to get us out of India.
Nelson Mandela used it to bring an end to apartheid.
The IRA used it to get some sort of political representation and fairness for Northern Irish Catholics.
Hamas used it to get Israel out of Gaza.

See, historically, it's worked at least as much as its failed.

The other point you're failing to grasp is that terror is not the first resort of evil people. It's the LAST resort of desperate people, pushed into a corner and with nothing to lose. For some reason, y'all seem to think that by pushing desperate people even further, you'll "win".

Well, I got news for you. That will never work. Mandela came to a negotiated settlement, as did the IRA, as did Hamas in Gaza. It took the British government 30 years of a 'war on terror' to realise that violence begets violence, and the only way forward is political.

I just hope it doesn't take the neo-cons 30 years to realise the same thing. Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

You are right on, the "exit strategy riff" is nothing more than politicaly driven rhetoric. The only exit strategy from terror is victory. Geraldo Rivera changed when after 9 / 11 because he knew folks who died in the World Trade Center.

The intelligence struggle was mitiagated in the sixties, if you're old enough to remember, and all the laws preventing intelligence sharing between national and international agencies were generated then, and we are still paying for it. And yes, the govenment is made up of self-protecting-perpetuating bureacuracies, little fiefdoms so dedicated to their own existance, the safety and welfare of the United States is most often secondary to their own agenda of survival.

I refer to number nine, part one of the Second Rise of Islam. I'm not ready to state this as a matter of fact until I research the matter further, however, it is beginning to appear that true Islam is a religion based on, "believe as I do or I will kill you" docturine.

Good post.

Good - in fact, excellent try!! ...there's a problem, though. Too many - in fact a growing number of deaf ears out there.
