Benzinha, true...they did.  When I read or hear of people like Miss Maude, and your grandmother, I am humbled.

Miss Maudo, mamacita, sounds like a lot of good women of her generation.

My grandmother came out to Arizona to work at the t.b. hospital here as a nurse back in the 30's with some of her girlfriends and ended up head of nursing decades later, when it became a regular hospital. By then she had done everything at the place and knew it inside and out.

In the old days, the surgical nurses cleaned up the operating rooms after surgery was done and the doctor was off having a cup of coffee. I mean, they cleaned up, sterilizing the place each time.

No one works that hard much anymore, without complaining or expecting some big reward. Back then, you did what you could and more and things got done and life improved and the world kept turning.

Wonderful story.....wonderful woman. And I like that she was too busy for silly formalities like White House dinners. If Nancy and Ronnie had really wanted to eat with her, they could have found someone to cover for her for the few days that she'd be gone, or go down there and take her out to dinner.
