OFFBEATS,
I wish you had known I was going, too. You sound like you have a lot of experience in the Keys. Next time we plan a trip, you'll be the first to know. Thanks for reading and commenting.

RAME

I wished I would have known you were going there. Your right it is a big rip off. The only time Key West is fun is during Fantasy Fest, and that gets old.

Right below Homestead is the 18 mile stretch, there is another road called Card Sound that goes off to the left. If you would have gone Card Sound you would have had some good conch salad at a place called Alabama Jack's. That is all there is on Card Sound and  it takes you to the upper part of Key Largo. On Islamorada there is a place called The Seafood Company, there is no better seafood in S. FL. I also believe this is one of the prettiest keys.

I don't recommend Key Weird to anyone. It has lost it's charm to over development. It was good back in it's day. Also the fritters are frozen because they are brought in from Grand Bahama. It's against the law to catch them in S.FL. They were over fished. Just like the turtles.

There is one place I would highly recommend and that is the Dry Tortugas. The sand is awesome, it's a couple hour boat ride from Key West, and it is pristine. Also, the back country has a lot to be said for it too.

Key West is all coral rock, that is why there is no beaches, and the odor is indeed seaweed or sewer. I have watched them work on the sewers, they have to wait for low tide.

Sorry, didn't mean to go on, hope you have a good vacation other than this experience!
