Daisyface...it's all just business.  That's all.  And as a manager, it will help you if you keep that in mind.  Nothing personal, just business....and firing people who won't do it your way because you are the 'boss' and said so, gets easier, and your job gets easier....I used to always tell them, 'I'm not losing my job over something YOU did'.  Still, I don't want a job anymore where I am held accountable for somebody else's screw-ups!  Bit of advice from someone who's been there and done that, document, document, document!  Have each employee sign something that spells out esactly what you talked about, and the date each time you must talk to him/her about ANYTHING!  It is called, in management circles, 'CYA'....Cover Your Ass!!

Sounds like a tough start...oh, and I love the 50's....I'm all about the 40's, 50's, and 70's...I hate most of the 80's, 90's, and today's fashions...lol! Why do they keep bringing back the 80's...some of the stuff is cute, but come one....enough already....it's the one era that won't die....lol....I need diversity...who can I take this up with...haha...I hope my insane rambling has cheered you up...a little? No not, at all.....lol...

It's their actions, not yours
No one expects you to like firing people. The person who likes doing it has no business being a manager. It's something you do because you have to...because their actions force you to it.

What will eventually happen is that you will get angry with the person whom you have to discipline because they are making you do something you don't want have to do.

It will get easier.

And I thought my job was tough
at least I don't have to worry about firing people, just my weapon. Eh, not much of a trade off I'll admit. Oh, yeah, about that post I wrote about my fiancee, I did email it to her. She loved it, for some odd reason. And I'll be putting that in the expanded and revised edition of my book, along with most of my postings, so it's not worth picking up 'cause you cats all know what's in there. And I'll go get some Imodium AD for my verbal diahrea.
