Frankenkitty...
...that's a very good point. Thanks for making it.

I hope they get back safe, too.

I have my own opinions about the war,
but if a person has a child over there it doesn't really matter what anyone says.  Denial is a survival skill for people facing tremendous amounts of stress. I would know, being in the situation I'm in. Sometimes people believe what they have to believe just to get out of bed everyday, no matter how inaccurate or insane it is. That goes for muslims to christians to anyone.  I hope these kids come back home, period.

There's an...
...incredible amount of either misunderstanding or blind ignorance in this letter.

For example, it's convenient pro-war rhetoric to claim that the problems began on September 11th 2001. That's simply not true - it goes back over 500,000 Iraqi deaths through US-imposed sanctions; back further to Gulf War I, where America did a good thing by responding to an ally in need, but made it bad by making military camps in the holiest of holy Muslim lands permanent.

And the writer doesn't want incriminating evidence of torture and abuse at Abu Ghraib released because she believes it could cause a Muslim backlash??? Errr...it's a bit late to be thinking along those lines, pet!

It makes the mistake of re-hashing the US media view of that torture as 'college hazing'. Sure, it makes it more comfortable than facing up to the truth that the US tortures as a matter of course, and sends people elsewhere to be tortured. But surely the truth has a place here somewhere? Doesn't it?

Finally, it misses the ultimate truth that we are all on species, all inter-connected. Abuse, torture, murder, incarcerate one person, and we're doing that to a part of each and every one of us.

And the saddest thing of all is - many people simply don't care, because it's the easy way out.

Yes, great letter. I don't care either, nor will I ever care again about Arabs/Muslims, whatever.

Ship them all off the shores of North America back to where they came from. Let them solve their own problem.
