Sorry, you're right.  I got off on a tangent in my comment and truncated it before making the point I had intended to make.   I see your point about how cameras benefit us mostly after the fact.  I sometimes think, though, that they may be useful in helping prevent future attacks.  For example, this week, they tracked the four failed bombers down and arrested them.  They may be able to extract useful info out of them now.  It's also possible that live cams may help the watchers to spot suspicious activity and intercede somehow to minimize the number of deaths.  Terrorists definitely have the advantage right now, but if cameras can help one centimetre at a time, who knows where it may lead?  If you want to remove scotch tape from something, you have to kind of pick away at the edges first.   I liked your Osama/God analogy

That's what I was saying though. Cameras help to catch the criminals who have already committed their crime. But the cameras didn't stop that girl from getting raped and killed.

I guess there's
...an exception to every rule, though.  In my city, a man raped and murdered a girl down by a river, stole her backpack, then walked from the river up a busy street, past a succession of store security cams and ATM cams, so the police were almost able to follow him home.  He was recognized by shop owners as a regular passerby.  The girl's backpack was ID'd from the images because of a stuffed toy clipped to it.  He's in jail now.

The cameras were installed to stop theft and vandalism and have been just as effective. I remember a few years ago I was robbed and afterwards I ended up with a paper trail of all the place my checks and cards were used. It occurred to me that had I had been able to see the footage from each of the shops my cards were used at that thief could have been caught. So yes the cameras stop nothing

The Homeland Crayola Color of the day is: Mauve. Somewhere between Guarded and Severe, with a little bit of grey thrown in just throw you off.

Even the 9/11 terrorists were on camera but why should they care
they usually die when the bomb goes off. Yes we must be on guard so always remember what the Homeland Crayola Color of the day is, so you can color your ass good bye.
