Ah, but "they" have a dream...Google "u.s.militarization of space"
to learn the whys. It's not about exploration for the sake of exploration or peaceful purposes. They don't care about the needs of the majority on planet earth. U.S. global domination is the goal and militarizing space is a main componet in realizing this dream.

I don't understand the neccessity for extending the space program at this current moment in time, either. Maybe to boast national pride?? Who cares, anyway. There are much more things to pay attention to in the news as far as I am concerned.

And Now...
...those guys are floating around out there, trying to work out which bits fell off during launch (!) and whether those bits will be needed on the way home (!!) or if they can do without them.
