I had the same feeling about
The Lord of the Rings series. Everyone told me how great and wonderful they were, and I just could not get into the books, and I tried several times over a couple decades, and I was barely able to tolerate the movies.

J.K. Rowling
I have the greatest admiration for her. I didn't read the books, but my 91 grandmother, my 70 year old mother-in-law, my 50 year husband, and my 20 year son all LIVED for the books. How often does that happen?
