I agree to a point. Pretty much a moderate, however, I don't truck much with extremist viewpoints from either side.
I remember when my mother was going to school full-time, working 2 and 3 jobs at a time to keep us fed and housed. This was back in the Reagan Era, but she recalls with bitterness the day she was told she was not eligible for welfare benefits. The reason? Because she decided that I had slept on the floor in a beanbag long enough, so she went to a yard sale and bought me a bed.
Their reasoning was that if she could afford a bed, she didn't need help feeding us. My mother was an extremely hard-working, intelligent woman, but the "system" could not see how assisting her, or others like her, was beneficial to greater society.
The problem, in fact, is not in the system itself, but rather in refusal to implement said system in a way that is mutually beneficial - both to individuals and to society as a whole. As long as partisan politics continues this tug-of-war, people will continue to not receive the help they need, while those crafty enough to outsmart the system will receive "handouts".

IsiSeYeSs, because of the way the liberals set up the welfare system, it is
rigged to reward lazy bums for being the lazy bums they are.
Personally, I believe that the only people who should receive welfare checks are such people as workers who earn low incomes and people who need to be subsidized temporarily (like yourself).
And so far as the able-bodied bums who refuse to work, they should not receive any checks at all. Each of them should be placed in an institutional setting (e.g. shelters for the homeless) and given a cot and three hots, and nothing more.

Hmmm...you make some interesting points, and I agree that the open-door policy in the US has caused some major trouble.
On the other hand, the welfare office (which supposedly my tax dollars pay for in the event that I ever CAN find work, so that assistance is there when I need it) informed me that the 600 dollars per month child support my ex will soon be required to pay puts me over the income limit to receive public assistance.
It's hard for me to imagine that there really are so many able-bodied workers out there sitting on their asses and receiving handouts. When 600 dollars per months "income" makes you ineligible for help - well, something's really wrong. Maybe it's the lazy asses sitting around that caused the problem. Maybe all the money is going to illegal immigrants. Either way, something's certainly rotten in Denmark.

Numinous, for one thing, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a person
holding down two, three or even four jobs if he or she has to do so, in order to make ends meet.
I, myself, worked two full-time jobs for nearly 20 years, and today, I am what is commonly referred to as financially secure.
I learned a long time ago that, in order for one to succeed in this world, ONE HAS TO DO WHAT HE/SHE NEEDS TO DO.
Currently, there are too many Americans who want IT ALL, but who are not willing to do what it takes to gain IT ALL.

I am clueless as to where you get the idea I think like that at all. I am wodnering what logic you used for this, if any. Or is this just an attempt to discredit me?
You see, none of the black people I know and are friends with support racism as you do. I know that becuase I talk to them and have gotten to know them fairly well as people, not as part of race or any of that BS. I very much do not see people based on their race but on who they are. Outside of the closed minded black people here on blogit who seem to very often try to use their race as a means to prove a point without having to acturally proved proof, my views on black people are very postive and very far from the sterotypes due to the ones I have gotten to know.

THe problem with Americans taking the low paying, physically demanding jobs in this country is that one person would have to hold down five or six of these jobs to maintain a residence in this country. These workers who come in from other countries send their wages back to their homes in other countries where that kind of money can actually support their families. If those jobs paid enough, Americans would do them, but then the cost of whatever they were producing would be MUCH more than we would want to pay.

OffBeat, very glad to hear from you. REALLY. Anyway, I am one of the guys
who put his life on the line to preserve our freedoms. Spent many months in the swamps, rice paddies and jungles of Vietnam as an infantry soldier.
And that is the reason why I hold the opinions that I expressed in this post. I do not want to see us lose our freedoms. And the key word here is "our." The US Constitution provides for the rights of Americans, not foreigners.
Also, nowhere in that document does it state that the US has to open its doors to immigrants.
I know my way of looking at things is quite harsh, but if we continue to let any and every one into this country, the time will come when America won't be America anymore, or will cease to exist.
Today, things are not at all the same as they were during the early to mid-1900s.

You are a black man who promotes the idea of racism, racial profiling and the basic ideas that the KKK were based off of. I have no clue why you wish to push setting back the equal rights movement. Do you really want there to start be separate bathrooms for the different races?
