Diosdado Macapagal is a former President of the Phlippines and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is his daughter to a second marriage, if I get it right. Oh sure, Gloria is going to hold onto power until her presidency runs out. Remember that when another woman was in Malacañang, there was always threat of a coup d'etat. What we are witnessing now is perhaps a different version of that.

Mapapagal
is such a revered name in the Phillipines, isn't it? I don't understand the details of this story, but it seems that a woman, Mapapagal-Arroyo in this case, can be as relentlessly determined to hold on to power, as any man. Hemlocker
