...I've never tested this but apparently, if you offer Scottish money (as you say, legal tender) in England, and the retailer refuses to accept it, you are legally allowed to walk out with the goods.
That would make for an afternoon's entertainment, huh? Best to get the legal story confirmed first, though!

Legal tender
Some retailers in England query whether Scottish notes are legal tender (they are). I wonder if outlets in Ohio would even have heard of Colin Montgomerie if he appeared on a US Dollar bill? More likely loose change in Colin's case anyway.
