Is it taught at home?

I work in retail and I have seen many parents give in to their kid's tantrums and demands so easily. You have to wonder who is actually running the household.

New Yorker
or they've never been exposed to the opportunity to learn those manners. Consider phone manners. I used to get really pissed, more than I should have, according to my wife, when our son lived at home and a friend would call and say "Is Isaac there?" No greeting, no identifying himself or herself. And yet most of these kids are otherwise good kids. It's a malaise of changing times. Hemlocker

indulgence may be the root cause
It's not that they don't have manners. It's that they don't use them. They've been waited on and catered to by folks who don't realize their job is to make their kids lovable to others. Karma's a scary thing, but it is there.
