Thanks for the Independence Day greeting.  And thank you for saying it.  We Americans as a whole shouldn't be condemned by the policies and actions of our government.  As an American living abroad, I am particularly sensitive to the attitudes of non-Americans toward my homeland.  I hear the pause when I tell a Turkish woman that I'm American, after she asks where I'm from, for example.  It hurts.  I don't like feeling apologetic for being American.  We're not all bad.  Most of us seem to disagree with Bush's policies and actions (tho how exactly he got into office, not to mention for a second term, is beyond my comprehension, especially since no one will admit to voting for him!).  America is a lovely place, and the people are warm and friendly, and curious about anyone who lives across either ocean.  Our country has done good things, and our country has done bad things.  Show me one country that doesn't have a dirty track record.  I love my country.  It's big and vast and has wonderful things to offer.

I have also been hearing all day today about the bombings in London, and it breaks my heart.  Why can't we all just play nice?  Isn't there a better way?
