faith is based on ones own personal observations
so it can never be forced. Otherwise the person will observe something is being pushed on them, and they will recoil in mistrust. Kind of like what you experience on a car lot and the salesman pops up out of nowhere looking all desheveled and faux friendly.

But, back to your question . . .
I forgot his name or time, but some Bishop (or Cardinal) in the middle ages (I think) used the various ages of people as stated in the Bible, as well as other verses dealing with time, to tie to this 6,000 year old theory.

I don't see how that could be taught, either . . .
But there are some, mostly creationists, who teach that. God and science are not mutually exclusive, in my opinion. Faith is a good thing to have; it can strengthen us if we don't foist it on others.

the Bible does not state that the earth is 6,000 years old
anywhere. I dont know why that is taught.
Genesis 1:1-Genesis 1:2.
time gap. Could be billions of years.

yeah i know
some Bishop Ussher or somebody decided on the date of Creation -- way back 500 years ago -- in the Dark Ages.
problem is, it stuck.
