Moondawg, I wish my father had changed earlier, but I'm glad he did it at all.

Quirky, I do feel differently about him and I feel sad that he couldn't have shown this side of him when I was much younger.

kingmi - yes, he has grown up! I told him that I wished he had been more like he is now when I was a teenager!

mmm - it was definitely a shock to see how my parents have aged physically. But after a few hours they became familiar again.

Very poignant and touching Ca88andra
I am beginning to have some worries about my mother's condition; though she's not yet seventy. I pray she will mellow as the years move on. Glad you have the respite of friends. Thoughts sent, take care.

Many times
as parents grow older they realize the things that they missed while their children were growing up and regret how they separated themselves from it. My dad was the bread winner and had little time to take much interest in the five of us. About the time that I was through high school a change took place and all of a sudden it was like he was trying to make up for lost time. I've always been grateful for that change.

Sounds like you are holding together Cass!
The in-between visits with your friends are maybe fuelling you for the more difficult visits. Good to hear from you! Hope your visit with your mum goes well!
