I think that's great.  I wish the jealous nations of the world would read your post and realize that we're not the greatest nation afterall.  Europe is who they should now target with their envy and hatred?  Or just jolly old England?

Limey,

First, excuse the smoke statement.  I don't normally say that sort of thing, but I was a little out of sorts at that time.

The ''United Nations Considers'' sentence reflects only one thing to me: the tendency of most people in a discussion to anthropomorphize non-living organizations.  The U.N. does not ''consider'' anything; bureaucrats within it do.  You may consider that to be a meaningless distinction, but until we learn to consider individual human beings as responsible for an organization's actions and policies, we are misleading ourselves.

As far as General Kofi Annan, I know nothing about him or his position of authority in the U.N.  I honestly doubt that one man, regardless of his position, has the right to speak for the entire organization.  This sort of distortion of U.N. positions is very typical of the near-moronic way that the U.N. is run.  The reports from the press are equally distorted and just as nearly moronic; there are too many personal axes being ground by reporters and editors.

Is the U.N. operating in a fair manner?  Everyone has an opinion on that, and they all differ.  My personal opinion is that the U.N. is overly influenced by minority countries, political leanings of with predictable opionions, and totally ineffective management.  It is an excellent idea gutted by minority domination of how it is carried out.   JJ

As you probably know, the United Nations considers the war an illegal act that contravened the UN charter.

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan declared the decision to take action in Iraq should have been made by the Security Council, not unilaterally.

You are correct in your assertion that the burden of proof is on those who make accusations.

Therefore, let me rephrase my question. Could you kindly persuade me the UN's assertion is wrong and the Iraq war was not illegal?

I don't smoke.

Limey,

I presume you want me to prove that Bush's action it is not illegal.

I won't tackle that.  We both live in countries of laws.  If accusations are made of lawbreaking, the burden of proof is upon those who make the accusations.  Does Britain have a legal system that says ''guilty until proved innocent?''  I rather doubt that.  The proposition is absurd in any but the most primitive of cultures; cultures that hack off the heads of the accused; cultures that live by Lord of the Flies codes of behavior.  If you think Bush is guilty of breaking International Law, why have you not worked toward bringing charges?  Why do you not even want to mention here what the charges might be and where they can be made?  To put it into a simple American idiom, you are blowing smoke out your ass.   JJ

Well Limey,

If you find a wonderful country let me know.  As far as I can tell they are all full of people who think pretty much alike.  The human mind works the same wherever it is.

And can you tell me whose law makes the war in Iraq illegal?  And is that an unquestionable truth that is not open for argument?  Who said so?  Can anyone pass a law?  I want to pass one or two myself.     JJ  Forgive my Bluster.  I feel blustery today.

By the time you lot got involved the Battle of Britain was over, the Russians were taking the flak and the rest was a forgone conclusion.

As you'll see, the statistics I've provided are Europe-based - if you didn't already know, Britain is a member of the European Union.

The rest of you statement reveals only too clearly your arrogant, bullying attitude.

Tony Blair is welcome to joine you.

So now will the British dither on the sidelines for two years as terrorist anarchists who practice religious persecution battle Americans in the Middle East?   JJ

Sure. Great Britian would be drinking German beer and not by choice were it not for America. When you speak of size of populations, do not lump Europe into one country. That you are not! Hell the French hate you, have you not picked up on that? Don't worry about the French, they are gutless wonders anyway. You say we looked away during WW2, yes we were isolationist, but once the Jap's dropped a few on Pearl, we were awaken! Once that happened, it was a matter of time before we wiped out everyone on the planet who chose war instead of peace. We no longer sleep. We no longer are taking crap from the world. Most of us would just as soon "take out" forever our enemies. The world should be grateful we practice restraint, and value human life. Otherwise we would have one giant parking lot in the middle east.

I love Tony Blair, good man. Tough decision maker. Makes tough decisions. He is a leader amoung men! I know my friends in England do not feel as you do sitting in your Yorkshire home. Rest there in comfort, America will always protect England. To many of us, she is our family.

As I've said many times before, Britain held off Nazi Germany for two full years while you people dithered on the sidelines. Without the sacrifice of thousands of British lives, you people would have been speaking German now.

Europe's population is considerably larger than America's.

The United States of America is the greatest country in the world. Your slimy ass is free today because America stood by England when an evil peril was just across the channel. Rommel had made his way through France and was coming after your butts!

We may have high numbers on many things, I for one doubt your numbers are correct. Let us for the sake of argument say they are. We have millions of people in our country. That fact alone would qualify us for higher ranking on many issues.

Do we brag because we are all that? Because we are the best at many things, most things? You bet your ass we do! We damm sure are all that and more!!!

Limey...
Did you ever think some of those satistics are skewed simply because America lets in every godforsaken person who wants access and, due to the attractiveness of our lifestyle, many godforsaken, poor and often times desperate people flood this country daily? When you allow scum to corrupt your country, most times, statistics are corrupted too.

I didn't trust Tony Blair before he came to power and I don't trust him now. His worst sin was to lead us into the illegal Iraq war simply to stay close to and curry favour with America.

Yes, I think he got on better with Bill Clinton - but that's not saying much.

Limey.....The U.S. is still the greatest country in the world, by far, but-
I have to agree with you on the healthcare and poverty issues. I am a democrat and I truly care about those problems...By the way, what do you think of Tony Blair? I thought he had a better working relationship with Mr. Clinton. What say you?
