you live in Cardinal country!!!!
or maybe you're a cubs fan -- that's your problem -- the Cards got your goat :-).

as for McGuire -- there was a problem there -- Cards mgmt went looking for the "big one" -- got it -- now it's coming back.

Mark was a natural at one time -- also was excellent in playing the basics -- stayed with that, made few mistakes on the base paths, etc. -- unlike a lot of the pros who forgot the basics --

but the big thiing at the time was the long ball -- still is --

too much flash and too little substance

Cards this year have that substance -- been winning mostly by playing small ball -- regular hits and base running -- still the mgmt goes gaga over the long ball hitters -- that's been a big problem.

archie, I'll handle this because I am an avid fan. OK, the Cards
are the St. Louis Cardinals -- a professional baseball team belonging to the National League.  They are best known for distributing illegal narcotics to their team; prime example, Mark McGwyre broke Roger Maris' record a few years ago, which had stood since '61, and then jumped into the crowd hugging everyone.  Extremely poor taste brought on by the illegal use of steroids.  He then retired because the steroid use had created biceps and triceps too large to permit him to wash himself.

Are the "Cards" some
religious group? Or is it related to an aviary goddess?
