Greater "Men" Then Us....

Friend,

Greater people then you and I have asked these same questions.  Who is God?

Socrates was forced to commit suicide because he questioned the commonly held belief in God.  He was indicted for Athiesm but, even his accusers thought the charges were unjust and vague.  If he would just stop teaching people to doubt what they were taught. He could not. It was not so much for what he believed or didn't believe but, rather that he had the audacity to admit that he just didn't know.  None of them did.  He also said this made him wiser than most since at least he KNEW that he knew nothing.

What he DID believe was that one must devote oneself to figuring out that the common man/woman must live a good life, just for its own sake.  It was a secular morality.

Doesn't it make sense that we are ALL guided by universal moral principles which are the BASIS of all the great world religions?

Relax, we are in good company with our doubt. I personally am honored to count Socrates, Confucius, Galileo, Einsten and Darwin (to name a few) amongst our fellow "doubters".

one more thing
the god you speak is a construct of the human imagination -- like family gods and natonal gods -- imagined that this god would be the god of his people and protect them etc. -- and the people ascribe to him attributes that are found to be contradictory to reality.
discard that god. there are too many unanswered questions such as yours surrounding that god.

obscurity
is the way of this god.
Yeshua said he spoke in parables, not to make clear, but to obscure, meanings.
in the Old TEstament, it is written "God speaks with a stammering tongue and halting voice" -- something like that --
the key is to find the "pearl of great price" among all the oysters.

the Talmud quotes the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." then says "this go learn; the rest is but commentary."

find the pearls, such as the Golden Rule and "Love thy neighbor as thyself." and the Sermon on the Mount (check MY TRANSLATIONS for a different rendering) and I Corinthians 13. They are all you really need. learn to live as they guide you.

all the other questions are moot.

Ariala, yes we have free will but, what about writing the teachings as and when they were taught?  Surely, he must have known

It's called freewill...God didn't create robots...foreknowledge does not
spell predestination.
