I have nothing against the many being put to death, but this is just one

instance where prudent adjudication can stave off your (and my) civil liberties from being infringed upon simply because of the ineptness of your (or my defense).  I feel for the family, and I am sure this man deserves to die, but what I feel personally has nothing to do with this case, nor should it anyone else's.  However, if this case keeps others, and I am talking about innocent people as well as the guilty, from being hung out to dry because of poor preparation, ineptitude, laziness, coercion, or whatever, I will stand by the fact that this was the right decision to make, if only to set precedence and hold lawyers, prosecutors as well as defense attorneys, accountable for providing proper counsel.

twodog, you seem to be like most reactionaries, a lot of simpleminded barking and biting in the name of your own narrow versions of right and wrong, without regard for what your actions may hold for the future.  Don't even labor under the presupposition that you know how I would think in a like situation.  I would be more than willing to bet that the tavern owner's family would be willing to sacrifice a death penalty conviction if, for whatever reason, one of them was tried in the future, was convicted, and, because of the precedent set in this case, that conviction was overturned.  Bet on it.

The Death Penality Was Already Served
Perhaps you might talk to the family members of the individual burned to death. Of course, I'm sure they might have a slight difference of opinion. And, I wonder how you would feel if one or your family members was murderd in a similar fashion, and the killer was allowed continued life because there was some doubt the killer didn't know the difference between right and wrong.
