We as humans have always had an overblown and grandiose view of our significance in terms of our relationship to Earth and the rest of the universe. Even when one considers that we are capable of destroying our planet, in broader terms we are just a minor cancer infecting but one molecular component of an enormously vast expanse.

really hasn't changed that much in 10,000 years
that's a sad thing
but then again -- 10 k's a blink o the eye in cosmic terms

societies are a product of their obsession
i am reminded of the Roman gladiators when i see professional football. technology has become our god and excess has replaced hard work. it is truly sad to witness.
