It's good to know you are joining a protest. That's one of those exercises of freedom that I kind of think is good in itself, as people sometimes say it's a waste of time because it makes no difference.
If a million people showed up, that would really get the media's attention. If millions voted on the basis of those sentiments, now that would make a real policy difference. I say good for the people of Bolivia, and for that matter France and the Netherlands.
This year has featured a lot of encouraging popular -- and peaceful -- revolt by people basically saying enough is enough -- from Ukraine to Lebanon and elsewhere.
I would come to the protest, but I need the travel expenses to pay for school, as I am going to school during the summer this year(!) So I'll just send another check to Amnesty. They have a matching offer that I just learned of by mail yesterday -- whatever you give, some private donor has agreed to match it, so it ends up twice as much.
I don't know if it's just Amnesty USA that's doing that or if it's everywhere, but I thought that was an encouraging thing -- talk about bang for your buck!
They are also gathering signatures for the Statement Against Torture, and I signed that because I consider that there has never been a compelling argument for torture's morality or effectiveness in any case.
So let this be the year that lots of people give the world a hearty push toward democracy! We have nothing to lose but excessive munitions and carbon dioxide!

...I spent a very happy week a couple of years back at a friends place (very nice!) on the shores of Lake Norman.
I still don't get the American thing where you never see anyone walking anywhere. Don't wanna walk. Don't wanna fly. You're narrowing yourself down! Soon it'll be car, boat or impossibility Hyper-Drive!
Nice to see you!

You see, DamonLeigh, my passport ran out and I don't think I will ever get another (well you never know for sure).

As a life-long resident of North Carolina
I see no reason to go to South Carolina. We've got everything we need right here, by damn! And BTW, we don't like flying over large bodies of water---ain't safe! So there's no way in Hades that we'll ever visit one of them thar foreign countries.
