Blogit is what you make it, word. there is no reason why a writing club can't also be a serious writing club - he lies to himself

Hmmm, maybe what you could do is write
when the urge next strikes you. Write for all you're worth. Forget about editing and that sort of thing. Let the tale come out and then see where it goes. I too have found that taking time away from blogging helps when I need to get other things done. I miss blogging when I can't do it, but sometimes a decisive step away is necessary.

Word.smith,
Good question.  I've made a few, abortive attempts in a fiction blog.  It's a different kind of focus.  I really think I may need to take some time away from the blog and re-focus.

Mary, at some point in time

we all get a gentle or not-so-gentle reminder of what it is we are aiming to do and we can either pull up or socks and try to do a bit better or we can continue to waste time. Me? It's a matter of both for me, however, I am at the point now where I haven't written anything for publication in a while and I am not doing any submitting. I gotta bring this to a halt. What's stopping you from trying your hand at fiction in the near future?

Word.smith,
I've examined my own motives for being here as well.  I've read that there are two processes to creative writing: one right-brained, associative, free-flowing, and the other the logical, critical editor.  I started out with the idea that like Factorfiction, I'd just sort of prime the  creative pump, but I'm writing less and commenting more socially. Which is not a bad thing, in itself, I do enjoy journaling, but journaling is not fiction or essays, which I'd like to do more of.

Thanks Cass,

Part of what motivates me to continue writing when I slack off is that there are a few here who appreciate what I write. That makes all the difference.

L.E.

Your post was a timely wake up call for me. Time and again we all complain that Blogit is not what we're after, however, most of us adjust and start having fun without remembering why we came here in the first place. Those of us who are here to have fun will do just that, however, those who came here with a particular aim in view must at some point try and focus on the goals to be achieved.  I do a little of both, with the serious writing getting a beating most of the time.

I didn't think your words were meant to start another Blog fight, however, if I were named in the post, I probably would have been a bit offended, bearing in mind that we are all still entitled to our opinions and our liberties on the network.

Anyway, it's a good thing that we can't literally tar and feather each other, otherwise......

Bear up, very soon, this too shall pass.

Just don't stop writing because I really do enjoy reading everything you write!

Thank you, word.smith! Someone who took the spirit, rather than the words! May you be blessed with success in all your endeavours!

Original, as long as we don't lose focus, whatever it may be.

I'm trying to get back in the swing of things,

writing regularly, entertainingly and writing something that makes sense.

I'm like you. When I first started
here, I did a lot more serious writing. I used to write series of posts about one topic. I felt that I had to do at least a page to each post. Now I'm taking O'Rielly's advice, and trying to keep it pithy.

Ms_N_Dependence, thanks for your comment.

It's true that Blogit can market this place as much as they want as an online marketplace, but it won't be seen in this light for long once you get in the front door.  As I've said tons of time before, we're all here for different reasons, the trouble is that many - like myself - forget the reasons why they came in the first place. Still, I agree that my writing shouldn't suffer because of the club like atmosphere. I shouldn't lose my focus.

No word...
In answer to your question it is not... we should not do in Blogitville as Blogitvillians do... we should do as we came here to do... and that is truly write. Blogit will not begin to be seen as a Market Place for serious writers... until we as writers begin taking ourselves and our writing seriously.

Thanks Taps.
I guess Blogit is all things to all people in a very nice way.

You said it well, word.smith.   Some of us probably wouldn't be here if it weren't a bit like just a fun writing club.  We are not all here to just make a living at writing although that wouldn't be such a bad thing either.

Thanks Ginnie!

Blogit is nothing if not multi-faceted. It is really interesting looking into the lives of others and seeing their challenges and being able to give a word of encouragement here and there.  I also test out articles here from time to time and have got good criticism from various members.

I have to agree with that description, Flightpath.

Good post word!
I'm with Reni on this one..but also I won't post unless it sounds right to me...for me it's more a practice lesson on one hand, on the other I love the social interaction and I love reading and learning and getting a peek into so many lives. Blogit is multi-dimensional...now I'll go read the blog you mentioned.

word smith - Blogit's a melting pot, or a cross-section of humanity- well worth exploring. There are some treasures out there.

Sorry, Passion
I haven't done much of any reading or writing lately, but I'm making a date to come over and see what you've been up to lately.

It is what it is. Have you checked out my blogs???
They're all top-quality writing....lol! But seriously, I've read some great poems and stuff this past few weeks. Blogit IS what you make of it.

Renigade - funny comparison!

Thanks for the reality check. Personally though, I know that I can do much better than I have been doing recently.  My writing has suffered for lack of attention and yes, if everything was of A+ quality we'd all be  geniuses.

Ariala,

I realize that Blogit provides something for all of us who write. I also realize that along with your eye catching titles you do provide varied material. I won't knock you for that.

Factor, offending is not the word I'd use.

The blog has actually encouraged me to go back to the point at which I started. All of us have various reasons for being here and your reasons are some of mine as well. Being able to tell a good tale is one of my objectives as well as to keep the ideas flowing. Keeping in practise by writing frequently is one certain way to do that.  No doubt the response we get is flattering most of the time, but some of us do want to have a forum in which our work will be critiqued. I tried starting one such group here, but it did not last for very long because of various reasons. There is a place for everything, I guess and Blogit seems to be that place for us writers. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate that.

I'm here to write. Show me a writer who consistently churns out top-
quality stuff and I'll show you a super model who doesn't barf up her Cheerios every morning.  It doesn't happen.

People come to Blogit for different reasons...if we can respect those
differences we do well, if not, we start problems with others here.  Every day it's like entering a war zone around here because someone has something bad to say about me...it's getting old...

posted by Ariala on June 4, 2005 at 7:24 AM | link to this | reply

I still have not read the offending blog, but...

I am here to practice things like telling a tale and learning to think of things to write. If I truly wrote something I thought was publishable, I would try to sell it, not just post it. It is a little hard to determine if I am completely writing crap since we are not critical here. But then I would not stay if it were - I am looking to encourage myself in the idea that someone would read what I might write. That is new to me
