That's a very good but simple example of how easily misunderstandings can occur.
I rather like popsicle.

Please see my note to Tanoo and Lizzy. It's odd, isn't it, that this particular batch is familiar to both groups? I think it's the first time I've received such a comment.

Thank you for your explanation.
As you'll notice, quite a few people have commented that this latest list of words is also used on your side of the Atlantic.

Ms N Dependence
How nice of you to ask. Having recovered from What The Bleep Do They Know?!, I'm tolerably well, thank you.
If you'll allow me to be personal, how's the love life?

Perhaps you might run a fine English blog on all the comparisons of potty words? I can think of a couple hundred. Would be funny, but then that may not be becoming of a gentleman...

hmmm...
Most of the words you have listed as English English are used in American English. Only some of them are ones I've not seen used commonly here.

Alot of the words you post as words only English people use Americans use. I am however, thankful that we do not call our cigarettes fags. America is a mix of all kinds of people, so our lingo changes often. Just as there are a vast amount of accents all through out the states, there is a vast amount of constantly changing terms for things.

I love ice lolly!
I asked my stepdaughter once if she wanted a popsicle..she looked at me like I was nuts! "A what", she demanded! I showed her instead..as if we were both speaking foreign languages. "Ah, an ice lolly!" she exclaimed. I laughed and laughed..sometimes the differences in 'language' are good for a giggle.
