Go to Religion in the Modern World
- Add a comment
- Go to I wanna lie naked in bed with Yoko Ono for world peace -- ya that'll work
saul_relative -- thank you for the kind words
and judging by your comment you are one that actually gets it. We are seeing the entire world fragment further and further into congregational divisions yet there are some who tout more religion in our lives as a unifying force. Wonder what planet they live on?

Getting people to see beyond their own selfish interests is damn near
impossible; getting them to go beyond those same interests is even more difficult. Religion is a reflection of self-interest -- basicly, you believe in whatever you want, settling on the most comfortable choice, because the religion agrees with your ideals. The outpouring of good will and charity that we saw in the wake of the tsunami could never have occurred under the guidance of any one or an amalgamation of religions. It would have been like a roomful of spoiled children trying to decide on what game they all should play next. Collective agreement and amicable cohesion will never occur with regard to religion -- too many petty differences, too much self-involved wallowing, not enough consideration for the group.
Great post, gomedome.

Christianity
isn't perfect, and I have many questions, but....
I'd put my faith in God over humankind anyday.....

Without the same father, I don't see any chance of bringing all the world's kids together.

Would lying in bed naked with Yoko Ono qualify as peace or punishment?

if the behavior is at variance.
