Elan, its good if you can strive on your own, I tend to need that extra bit of help that these books give me.

wordsmith - It's sort of comforting to know that there are others out there who feel how I do.

kingmi - I need some of those love balloons! But you are right, the strategies are good to follow. I've certainly taken some on board.

Cass, you'll most likely have a million seller
if you get around to writing that book, since we all want to know the low down, blow by blow details.

ca88i, What I do like about self-help books is when they do give you a

strategy to work.  Strategies, as opposed to skills, are processes we follow every day without thinking;  the best strategy shift I ever got from a self-help book was "don't carry a plastic lawn and leaf bag around all day picking up negative garbage".  That helped me to see how I could survive the world by being positive.  So, I think the details will fill in themselves, and the broad strokes are what we are looking for.

Strategy: every time a colleague yells at me, complains, drops sarcasm or negativity, uses negative subtext to suggest things that are either grossly exaggerated or outright lies, I respond by 1) never changing the way I feel inside.  If I'm in  a good mood, I force myself to stay that way.  Now I have retained the control over my own life.  2) I immediately pray for that person or hope they have success, or send them love balloons.  The unexpected advantage of creating positive intentions toward them is that the next time I see them I have a smile and a cheery word for them, when what they anticipate is very different.  They are accustomed to getting one-upped in negativity.  This changes people's hearts.

Ca88,
I suspect that if most people knew how long it really took they would get discouraged. Most people want success and they want it RIGHT NOW! I would buy your book, it would be refreshing to have someone just lay it on the line for a change.

Great article! I would be proud to buy one of your books...and happy to ...
finally learn the step by step formula for becoming financially successful! I can't help but think your well crafted articles will be a great part of your success.

Ca88andra:  At the moment, I'm trying to create a career in real estate. One of the frustrations I have is that the gurus tell you that you need to have open houses to get contacts. It's true - they come in reasonably large numbers, and once they come you have their contact details, and you can follow up. Once you start following up, you really can get more listings which lead to more open houses which means more contacts which means....

BUT they never tell you how to get that first open house, or what to do if NOBODY shows up (that happens too)!

SO,I empathise with your dillema...

And I'll do a quickie post on why affirmations work (in the next hour or so).
