No, jethro, I don't take this topic lightly in the least. Too many people

have been killed because of it.  Too many think they know what is right for all and generally haven't a clue as to how to conduct their own lives.  Regardless, the topic is of utmost personal and general concern, one that no matter which side of the choice issue you stand, heat is generated.  No, I don't take it lightly, but I try to understand both sides of the argument.  I see nothing wrong with parental notification laws, nor do I see anything wrong with only notifying parents if there is a health risk (this to only be done once a person reaches a certain age, of course -- not if they are 12, or even 14).  There is a fine line between personal privacy, parental rights, and the age in which a person is considered of legal decision-making status.

But you are right, I am waiting on the Supreme Court to reconvene before going at this topic full force.  As must we all.

While abortion is sure to be a blockbuster topic on the court in the near future I think you mischaracterize what this case in New Hampshire is about. This is a case more about parents rights than abortion. You are talking about the court giving the right to a doctor to perform a major operation that has proven future health risks and every so often results in the death or mutilation of the patient.

Now I'm too young to have children, but imagining myself in the role of a parent who has just been told my 15 or 16 year old daughter just had a surgery that could affect her long term health and also took the life of what would have been my grandchild and nobody even felt I had the right to know???  Those cooler heads you speak of would be nowhere in sight. I'm sure this goes for many other parents put in this situation as well. I think the doctor in question and any other adults involved would be well advised to locate themselves in a different part of the country from then on.

I fear you are taking this issue a little too lightly while waiting for the bigger story to come along.
