my father acts like a child and I spent too much of my own childhood coddling my own father. It's not natural and now at 23 years old I'm finally putting myself first. It's going to hurt him, but it's time to raise myself because my parents couldn't do the job.

I think your Dad is upset at the fact that his son is leaving for the Middle East and his daughter can't stand him. He just does not have the ability to verbalize it or the will to swallow his pride and say he wishes things were different.
