I am reading a book right now by Bart Erhman titled "The Lost Christianities". It's a book about what your post is about - what and why were some books excepted into the canon, but others not. It's a fascinating book so far. He writes of the diverse beliefs within the Christian community in the first two hundred years of the movement. At that time, there were so many variations that you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a different one. There were Christian sects who believed there was only one God, some who believed there were three and one that believed there were 365 Gods. I intend to share what I read in upcoming posts in my blog.
