Having lived in the US and the UK (and not being a national of either)
I would say there are irritating habits on both sides - and some dearly loved stuff as well.
I don't, for instance, like British pub life. Too much drunkeness. Then again, I love the British media. Best in the world.
In America, I get bemused by a media that is suited to entertainment rather than any serious international accuracy. Then again, I've never met people with such an attitude of generosity towards others (I'm not talking money, rather acceptance).

Ironic, yes? And it also serves a purpose and makes an important point, in the nicest possible way.

That's one way of looking at it. However, I can't see right-wing Yanks allowing a bunch of foreigners to set up bases on their soil - special relationship or no special relationship. (Personally, I don't believe there's such a thing exists: the Americans are only interested in love-ins with themselves).

I'm surprised there
still there. Is Nato still around? What the heck are US forces doing in Europe anymore. I think its time for the US to pull back and let Europe go about its own way after 6 decades of peace, 4 of them through Pax Americana.

Perhaps they would like those bases - don't most of the senators keepasking for bases of their own forces in their states?
Mainly, of course, because a base means more people with disposable cash in a community, as well as a net influx of cash for the building, maintenance, supplies, food, etc. And, if Britain did the spending, it would mean that the US federal government would need to spend less....

RAF bases for America?
What's that meant to mean, Tanoo? That you'd like RAF bases/nuclear bombs over there?

You like them? Well, I hate to state the blindingly obvious, but you would, wouldn't you? (I take it you're American and, therefore, part of the system?).
My feeling is Americans should stand well back to get a little perspective on God's Own Country: I think you'll be horrified at what you see.
As far as change goes, as I've said several times before, if you really want to improve things, you can. Where there's a will, there's very much a way.
However, my guess is that because you have it too good, you're reluctantt to give it all up. And that's precisely what's clouding your judgement and stifling your will.
Lecture over.
Have a nice day.

You are right - but I like America
As I read through these blogs and get a sense of how Americans think and feel, I find that I like them.
What I would like to see is, Middle class America rise up and take control of this country. But, they can't because the politcal system won't permit it; there is an entrench divide and conquor element that distorts popular opinion enough for the elite to dominate.
The last straw should have been when GW gave away the huge surplus to American's most wealthy - what a waste.
When was the last time there was a lay persons agenda at the federal level - never going to happen as long as over glorified wealthy people control the government. 50% voter turn outs for ever.

Unfortunately, we already have
bombs and bases in every state, so I hardly think anyone would notice, more's the pity. The dumb bastards even had to pick one up off the coast of Georgia recently -- an H-bomb from the 50's some moron let go by accident. Would have been pretty amusing to make Savannah glow in the dark -- midnight in the garden of good and evil would be permanently orange, methinks.
