wordsmith - yes, having my airfare paid for me is a blessing!

kingmi, no you're not unsupportive, just realistic. I don't plan to go grey fighting City Hall, I just want to have my say. (yes, I will probably pay the ticket too).

Mystic - your comment makes me feel like a knight charging into battle!

Goddess - that is frustrating for real! Even when you come back you can't remember what you were supposed to learn!

zentropa - those Sydney parking meters sound good. I wonder if Melbourne is looking at them? Interesting that your early years sort of mirrored mine. lol

May - that is what I'm planning to do. We will see what sort of reply I get.

Temple, you make it sound so easy just to laugh and deep down inside I do believe it is easy. I'm smiling now - can you see? The Universe does do strange things sometimes, or maybe not. Maybe there is some pattern out there, some lesson I'm being taught. And I will learn it. Thank you sweet friend...

lol muser! No, it wasn't him and yes the conversation was rivetting - NOT!

It's good that you won't have to find the funds to
go see your Mom. It may take some time and effort but do try to work out that traffic matter. That's definitely not fair.

Ca88i, I hate to sound unsupportive, but i watched my father fight city hall all of his life.  I destroyed him, although we always felt proud of him for standing up to injustices.  If it were me I'd pay the fine, figure that God will punish the traffic cop who obviously is a member of some super race (in his mind) and move on.

...life is nothing but lessons, daily, unfolding lessons, that keep coming around in a circle until we get it. You fight that damn ticket, thats their lesson to learn...don't cheat the people of the land!

The problem with the lessons...

is that you are never sure if you learned them until you come back and you don't have to learn them again

Parking tickets suck!

But I like two things about the new parking meters in Sydney:

  1. They actually print you out a ticket that you place on the dashboard of your car. The ticket shows clearly what time you paid for the ticket and what time the ticket expires. That is your proof that you paid for your parking legitimately.
  2. Even if you have no change for the meter--which I never do!--you can pay by swiping your credit card. And even if you have no credit card, you can pay with your mobile phone.

Perhaps the Melbourne City Council should install them too. It would have fixed your problem if you had your original docket to prove you paid for the parking you said you did.

Also, it is interesting to hear that you spent the first ten years of your life in the US. I spent the first nine years of my life in Australia, and the next eight in the US--so I feel quite bicultural.

Write to them calmly and see how you go. Photocopy the ticket too. But most of all don't waste too much energy fretting over this.

I hate it when things pile up like that, and you know I feel you.
When I can do it, do you know what actually works?  I just laugh.  I surrender.  Alright then, bring it on universe, what's next.  I find a place of light in my heart, my spirit, and laugh.  I can't do anything but handle one thing at time.  Things will slip through the cracks, things will get missed and there will be new problems.  But, when I truly surrender and laugh... come from a place of knowing that these little things don't touch my core, my real happiness, my real joy....that they simply don't matter....that they can't take away my blessings....then, it doesn't matter what happens next, I don't even care.  This is a Buddhist way, but maybe it will help you.  It is hard, I give you that, but often when I can find my way there, it seems the universe smiles and things lighten up....as if to say, there, you see now.  Happiness and suffering really are all in our mind, that is actually the only lesson I think.  It's how we handle it all that the universe cares about.  I send thoughts of light and love and surrender, my sweet friend.

Quirky - yes, that's exactly the question I'm asking! (and I'm confused too...)

Jemmie - thank you! I hadn't thought of printing this post, but that might help.

I'm confused...why did they ticket you if you had money in the meter?

I really hope it works out!!!

Perhaps you can print out this post as part of your argument that you did put money in the meter!  Oh I really hope this all works out for you!!!  *hugs*  You'll be in my thoughts and prayers!

And have a good trip to Perth!  I used to have a friend from Perth.  He was a pitcher on my college's baseball team.

muser - I once had a blind date with a parking inspector. He liked the job because it didn't entail much thinking...

WOULDN'T YOU HATE HAVING TO MAKE YOUR LIVING AS A
PARKING INSPECTOR? HOW VILE!! THAT'S RIGHT UP THERE WITH IRS AGENTS, INS ADJUSTERS, HMO QUALIFIERS, AND DOGCATCHERS!! I WONDER WHAT A PERSONALITY TEST WOULD REVEAL ABOUT PEOPLE IN THESE CAREERS?

ginnie - yes, the stress factor did cross my mind. But I will make the initial enquiries and write the letter and see what happens. Yes, I was born in the States - lived there till I was 10 and have many happy memories.

Fight for it Cass..
....but then that's added stress too right? :( So you used to live in the States?

Tapsel - my thoughts exactly! I will see what I can do.

Ca88andra - How unfair to give you a ticket when you had put the money in.   There must be some way to counter that ticket claim.
