Great post Hacker
No matter what your point of view, the cop has a right to only his point of view until a scene is cleared and the players sorted out.
Not a good time debate civil liberties.
I have awoken to a police revolver in my ear. It is an eery time dilating experience. The need to get it right is paramount, not beginning a debate on drug law.
I sincerely think ego stupidity gets a lot of people killed or injured.
People, some are too ego bound to consider running away from a crack addict. They would rather stand up to a thief and possibly lose their lives even though there is no one around to impress except the crackpot.
How's that for screwed up priorities, worrying that a crack addle might think you a puss.
Guys who speed to impress...
Take care hacker.

You know, that's a good point. I guess I sort of strayed from the point I was trying to make in the post and started saying stuff that I can't really back up. I think the real point I was trying to get across was that a large majority of people who get shot with tasers really did something to earn it, whether through action or inaction. Also, if you comply with police instructions (So long as their not "Strip naked and dance!", in which case it would be better to get the taser and sue the crap out of them later) you USUALLY won't get harmed. Riot and protest control, on the other hand, certainly gets out of hand. Fast.

Hacker,
You know, I would like to believe that the police are always looking out for our best interests, but certain incidents like the World Trade Center protest in Seattle in 2001, when the police just went berserk pepper spraying protestors: ripping off masks and spraying young girls in the face, destroying medical supplies, suiting up like a military force, and (if civilian employess hadn't refused to comply) attempting to bring in tanks on the railroads, lead me to believe otherwise.

Yeah, I'm read about their recent troubles. I'm curious, what were the points you didn't agree with? I'm always interested in hearing other peoples' opinions =)

I agree with your post for the most part. Taser International INC. for the last 6 months has seen thier stock (TASR) drop big time. They are up against law suits and public concerns over safety.
