I know how you feel. I've read several books about the Holocaust and it always affects me. I think that's why I make up these kinds of stories...Certainly not to disrespect in any manner those who perished, but to honour those who did whatever they could to save the lives of others.
The one thing that saddens me most about these stories from that period is that for some reason, little attention seems to be paid to the fact that the Jews were not the only victims...I have as yet to read a book that tells the story of the disabled who were murdered or the countless other non-Jews who met the same cruel fate.
I certainly don't mean to down play in any way the suffering of the Jews..I'm Jewish myself(by blood only) but I think that in order for history to honour the millions who suffered and died, the whole story must be told.
I hope reading this story wasn't too difficult for you...I would understand completely if you're not able to continue. God bless you, my friend.

When I read stories such as these I am always overwhelmed by the cruelty that humans can show to one and other.
