Most computer tech jobs are all gone; outsourced to India and other parts.

I have a ton of acquaintances with Bachelors Degrees and Windows Certs who are not working; and may not find a job anytime soon.

I remember back in 1999, when recruiters were calling day and night, and I could pick and choose my assignments. Those days are looong gone!

I hear you. I was unbelievably lucky to get this programming job, but with my illness, I just can't keep up with it anymore. I think programming will have to remain a hobby for me.

Not hiring here in Michigan

Most of my computer tech friends are out of work or in another industry altogether.

But jacks-of-all-trades like myself can get steady work. At less and less (it seems) every year!

Um... hm... I hope she used that lesson in her married life.

In high school I was the student aid for our only computer teacher. As such, my duties were to go around and fix stupid problems the other teachers had. Well, one day, one of the English teachers pushed SO DAMN HARD trying to get a zip disk in she broke the plastic face plate on the floppy drive and bent the metal frame inside enough for the disk to go in about 2 inches. Pure genius.

lol! No no, the little button on your monitor that has a magnet with a line through it silly. If you don't have that button, press the MENU button and it should be somewhere in there =P

Is it even physically possible to get a zip disk into a floppy drive?

degaussing? That sounds like the stuff you wrap a mummy with....

haha, yeah, magnets and monitors don't mix. Hell, magnets and computers don't mix, period. Have you tried degaussing the monitor? Might help to get rid of some of that bad magnet karma =P.

uni,

You can't hold magnets up the the monitor?

No wonder my screen is fading in and out...lol

Now that's a good idea if I've ever heard one. You can do all the good ones: spilling beverages on the keyboard, using the CD tray as a cup holder, sticking zip disks in the floppy drive, holding magnets up to the monitors. All of those are super easy to "fix", cause you just have to buy a new one of whatever was damaged! Let's do it.

uni,

I tend to break computers...perhaps i could work for a company, break all their computers...and then they can hire you to fix them...genuis I say.

You need screwdrivers with the correct bits silly. I dunno what they're called, they came with a tool kit I got one year for christmas or birthday or something. You must get them and bust open a hard drive. There's a fun powerful magnet inside as well as shiny metal platters! Talk about fun in a small metal box.

How do you get a hard drive open??  I tried doing that with my wife's because it was totally fried and I wanted to see what the innards looked like.  The best I managed to do was mangle the poor thing.
