No, you should get off your arses - as you would have it - and start changing things yourselves.

Blaming America's current state of affairs on everyone else is simply not on. Nor should every ill be placed at Wall Street's door.

As I've said elsewhere, this blog is about America - not China, nor anywhere else for that matter.

Limey, I try to see the overall picture.

For example ... I am an American, and it is a mistake to imagine that I am open-minded and tolerant.  One may get the impression that all Americans are open-minded and tolerant, but the fact of the matter is ... we are mostly derived of ignorant and poorly raised orphans who have a very weak value base for making good judgment calls.

If you will simply look into the historical facts of the extreme hardships endured by the early settlers, you may realize that our country is founded upon survivors of European oppression which forced us who are previously descended from advanced civilized lands to adjust to a continent populated by primitive native tribal peoples.

The Mayflower voyage, for example, being the first ship to arrive in the new land carrying Christian pilgrims looking for religious freedom, was dwindled to 50, mostly children and some women, by the time cold and hunger killed off the hopeful settlers.

Limey

et.al,

What I found most interesting is your complete lack of understanding of America. Yes their is corporate greed. But its world wide.

Yes, Wall-Street, the financial engine of the world is based here, so corporate America grows under its shadow.

What you are missing, is that by pissing, bitching and moaning to us, you are doing nothing. We are not CEO's of Fortune 100 corporations.

Many of us are dependent (right, wrong or otherwise) ON those corporations. Do they need change? You bet. Can all of us be a bit more wise of natural resources? Sure we can.

There is a recent article (I'd call your euro attention to your side of the pond) in National Geographic about China. It is one of the MOST polluted countries in the world. I hope you are writing to communist China about their enviromental policies, but somehow I doubt you are.

In closing, you are gaining no points, winning no friends. You MAY have valid points, but until you get off our collective American asses...Well..Fuck off.

Jane - take responsibility

Don't try to shift the goalposts.

This blog is about you and your fellow Americans taking responsibility for your greed, your exploitation of the world's natural resources.

It is not about 'all the industrial nations': so just for once take responsibility for your own actions.

And while you're at it, Jane, stop being so childish.

That is a redundant statement Limey.  Regardless of what country is running the show there will be abuses, people and resources will be exploited...it's just the way it works.  From a national/world model all the way down to a small business we, as a race have always and I suspect will always do it this way...there will always be the stronger and the weaker, the privilaged and the impoverished.  I certainly don't deny that there are things amiss in our country, of course there are, but there are also many wonderful things.  When you make blanket statements claiming that all Americans are greedy, or all Americans are evil, loud arrogant or whatever you do nothing but raise our ire while illustrating the profound shallowness of your thought.

When you're a bully and a coward (opposite sides of the same coin) like sLimey (and Glennb) appears to be here, you're going to point out everyone else's faults, but not have the guts to discuss your own failings.

Pathetic.

Fact is, ALL of the industrialized nations consume more resources per capita.  Fact is, the US exports a lot of what it produces to other countries -- including medications, foods, etc.  But you'll never hear about that from sLimey -- oops, Slimey, errr I mean Limey.

Its unfortunate because I've been to York and Harrogate (harrington?) and find it to be a cogenial place, not many people like Limey there. But no, he writes diatribe against the U.S. because he thinks we're all dumb as a bag of hammers and I guess since we read him we prove it true.  My question is why doesn't he indict all western nations?  He probably is condecneding and patronizing enough to believe in the idea of the noble savage.  Isn't western society in general responsible for destroying that?

The part about drilling old coal mines and polluting the air is true. Pennsylvania is definitely guilty of this and asthma is at an all time high. What I don't understand is why you point the finger at all americans. You are arrogant to presume that you know the hearts and minds of all americans. There is many bad things that you can point out about us, but you have missed all of the good things, but a negative mind has that kind of affect on a person.

Yes.  We are 6% of the worlds population and we consume 45%...and?  So what.  If britain or any other country were ABLE to do that they would do the same thing, but they can't.  We Americans are basically in charge of the world so get used to it.  Don't forget either that when there is a natural disaster or some terrible catastrophy somewhere in the world which country always contributes over 90% of the help and relief...thats right, America.  The other countries of the world are weak in comparison to us and thats just the way it is.  Why is that, you ask?  Because we are free thats why.  America remains the country that people go to in search of opportunity and freedom, our borders are flooded daily with immigrants of every stripe.  If we were so evil wouldn't people be leaving us??????  Rather than sacrificing everything to come in???  We consume 45% of the worlds resources because of the same reason a dog licks his balls........because he can.  And you would too if you only could.  Your comments are born of jealousy pure and simple.  I agree with Rame, if we stop clicking and commenting then perhaps you will go away.  You are an attention junkie who just likes to get reactions, I for one will participate no further.   Good day.
