Yes, this is going on here!

I live in Wisconsin, near Madison, and have been worked up about this for a couple of weeks.  Just a couple of facts, first:  The Conservation Congress (CC) is not part of the legislative or justice arms of state government.  It is an advisory board that makes recommendations to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).  Neither of them can pass laws.

Governor Doyle has said he will do everything in his power to keep this from becoming law.

A co-worker went to the CC open meeting.  There were some questionable practices there, like not providing complete information on voting on all the issues (there were 74 other issues that night).  It seems the CC is sort of a cover for a group of hunters.

Apparently, Minnesota and South Dakota already have this law, which surprises me.

Most cities and towns in Wisconsin that I know of prohibit the discharge of firearms in the city limits, so no one could shoot a bear if it walked through town.  Apparently hunters frequently do shoot cats they see in the woods, but they seem to want legal permission to do so.

This is getting so long, I'm going to have to do a post on it.  Overall, I find it quite disgusting.  There is no purpose to hunting cats, they aren't eaten, and their fur is not useful.
