It's all a matter of perspective. If you're on the White House staff (not just of the present administration, but any), propaganda is the name of the game. Go for it. If you're some guy with illusions of grandeur in Dubuque blogging in his PJ's, it's rather ridiculous.

Talion, that is the question, should we cross the line from writing as self-meaning to personal propaganda?

This is an interesting analogy and definitely provides food for thought. However, I believe in the typical political and/or religious opinion pieces, writers rarely make mistakes. They are saying what they mean and mean what they say, willingly crossing the line into propaganda.
