You know the same thing happened to me, but then again some of my best posts and most well read have been about me too. It's hard to know what's going to fly, and what's going to fall rankingwise.

I think that is one of the things that makes blogging different from other forms of writing...seems to be more focused on the writer in general.  It's the "online diary" that a lot of people like looking at.  But whatever you write about, people get used to a certain kind of writing and may not be as responsive if you change your style later...you lose some of the audience you gained, and it takes time to find the others that want the new stuff.  Ultimately, what you write is up to you.

MayB, why take a poll?... why not write about your Grandmother?... Gretchen, or whatever her name may have been. Or the one on the other side. Or your Uncle Jack. Families are rife with drama, comedy, eccentricities.

I agree with Talion,
you actually remind me quite a bit of beachbelle. Write about what interests you. Then tell everyone to go take a flying leap! It takes time to get a readership and I seem to lose mine every second week or so - The blogit audience is fickle.

MayB
There was another blogger here named beachbelle that also came from a journalistic background and she too was hesitant about writing about herself. It may be the journalist, stay objective, this isn't about me and my opinion, attitude you have to adopt to be successful in that field. I imagine it's hard to overcome.
