Well, being neither catholic nor christian, I fear that I can only give an objective opinion. I'm hoping that there won't be any backsliding to an Italian only papacy -- the church needed to be yanked into the global world whether it wanted to or not. As to a non-European pope, we all might be surprised by the choice of an American or Latin American choice, but I don't think it will go so far as to an Asian or African choice. Yet. Maybe in fifty years or so. But the outpouring of grief and mourning over JPII is quite remarkable, I remember the last two elections, and they were nothing like this one.
