Redlunar I'm not a believer in laisse faire parenting I see that style back fire in less motivated kids

Frankenkitty I think a number of pinches are in order for the sister first.

Tomato-Juice she has been three times to the counselor and she is starting to hear the message. I pray she continues, you are right parenting in braille leads to terrible things

loan-lady,
I think that a lot of parents today are afraid of disciplining their children. There is this fear of what is PC and what constitutes going over the line from discipline to abuse. Hence, the laid-back parenting as you describe in your post. Setting limits is necessary to build healthy children.  red

My mom would pinch us
if we did anything like that.  Not a gentle pinch, a very painful "if you think this hurts try that again smartass" pinch. I don't know if she was a perfect parent, but I certainly respect her.  Take care Loanlady

The kids are in charge...
they act out because they are trying to "challenge" their parents to take control. People who use the "sink or swim" method practice lazy parenting skills. Kids are time comsuming and challenging. Your sister needs to do us all a favor and get into the game. If she doesn't discipline those kids, they will turn on her.

Ariala a problem bigger than time outs can handle. Sister and Bro inlaw are on blinders mode and that is not working. Dad thinks spanking him is going to work. I told them both that spanking is no solution Consequences can be Comprehended by a four year old, and no more violent tv.

:::sigh:::  I hate hearing about parents who don't know what the heck they're doing.  I don't even have kids yet and I know how to properly raise them.
