I think his body just wore out, and it was time to go. Septic infections are nasty critters, and since he was already weakened from the flu and Parkinsons, I'm amazed that he hung on for as long as he did. But suspicious? Naaah, he was very elderly, in poor health and I'm not surprised at all.

Plus, he died of septic infection causing a shutdown of organ systems and circulation.  Well, have they heard of anti-biotics over there?  He was treated for three weeks, didn't anyone think to give him some penicillin?

Taps & Tanoo, I agree with you both that he was a great man, did a fine job
and that he was ill.  But two things make me suspicious.  First, his comment last week after the traecheostomy:  "What are they doing to me?"  and second, his last request to have the verse of Christ's crucifiction read to him.  Of course with three weeks of "treatment" for a flu-like symptom, you have very plausible results.  But you also have conspiracy theorists.

I don't think so, kingmi.   I think he lived a full life and everyone, even people who are not catholic, seem to admire him and feel that he was a very special man who did a very fine job.

No, he knew he was dying, last year he visited St. Lourdes and told her he came to tell her goodbye... God Bless him
