My pleasure Witchy

I am so hot, I am on fire. Pharmacists will fill prescriptions for Viagra or Cialis...drugs that give guys raging hormones and the hard on to use them and then deny a woman birth control??? Where the hell is the fairness or sense in that? I have already sent emails today to my congressmen and senators. If they do this in SC they will have me and my wheelchair on their desks looking for answers and I am scary when I am pissed.

Yes, Goddess,

This has been going on.  I read over a year ago that as soon as the anti-abortionists succeed, the next target would be birth control.  No one I told believed me.

I live in Wisconsin, and a pharmacist here refused to fill a birth control prescription because it "went against his beliefs."  He has lost his job and is losing her certification or whatever it is that pharmacists have, I believe.  Needless to say, I would not patronize any pharmacy that pulled this garbage.

I hate to sound like a conspiracy seeker, but it seems all part of a large plan to remove women's rights and send us back two centuries.  We have to remain vigilant and keep fighting.  Thanks for spreading the word.

Editorium...I can only hope....

that the religious conservatives like you and not like the Jerry Fallwell's of the world win out in this battle. Normally the power of the dollar would control this situation, but according to Scoop, 11 states already are considering making it legal for a pharmacist to do this and in four states they already have the legal right.

I have already sent emails to my congressmen and senators.

Two Things...or maybe three

I'd be considered religious right, but I think this is WAY wrong. As you pointed out, some of us use oral contraceptives for things other than preventing conception. And to refuse someone a medication that protects their health, sanity, and well-being is just NOT what Jesus would do!

Second, this is where the power of the consumer comes in to play. I can guaran-damn-tee you that I would not continue to patronize a pharmacy where the pharmacist, for no MEDICAL reason, refused to fill my prescriptions. I mean, okay, if his little database tells him that this med will interact with that other med that I take and will kill me, that's one thing. But to refuse to fill a duly authorized medical prescription on the basis of personal beliefs, that's wrong. And a pharmacy that loses me is going to lose a lot. Because I am responsible for three people's prescriptions, and I sometimes arrange to fill three other people's prescriptions as well. So they'd lose not just the $200 a month in copays that I pay for me and my kids; they'd lose the insurance payment on those 'scrips as well, plus any incidental 'scrips I might have to fill for self, kids, and/or parents. Bad economic decision.

And third, it's not the pharmacist's job to be my conscience. If I make a decision that you don't like, you are free to tell me that you don't agree with what I'm doing, but then you have to butt out and leave it between me, my doctor, and my Maker. Jesus never told us to be each others' consciences. He didn't chase people down and berate them for their sins. He told them the truth in answer to the questions they brought to Him, and then He left them alone to make their decision. Remember the rich young ruler? Jesus told him what he would have to do to follow Jesus, and then Jesus watched as the ruler turned and walked away.

IMO, if you are a pharmacist, your job is to fill prescriptions. To warn people of potential interactions, okay. But to try to dissuade someone from taking a medication without a MEDICAL reason for it, that's just not a pharmacist's job. And if you can't handle that, then don't be a pharmacist.

See... that was what I was worried about.

I only found out about this last night. One more cause for me to fight and rant about. Thanks for the info.

Mikes Goddess
According to the Washington Post 11 states are considering and 4 states have passed laws that would exempt pharmacies from having to fill prescriptions for birth control, and any other meds that they decide may violate their system of personal beliefs.............the radical right will find anyway they can to control your life.
