Padrecito, your photo makes me hungry and sad. I miss mangoes on trees

and falling all over the ground. I remember walking an just picking them up everywhere and eating them as I walked and picking fibers out of my teeth all afternoon.

My sister gathers hers up in baksets and has her neighbors do it, too. They deliver them to the poor people's houses in her town, those who live far away from mango trees and their falling onto the ground for free.

Here in the desert, only the cactus fruit falls to the ground like that, full of bugs and flies by that time. The Tohono O'Odham and now others gather them in baskets, using long poles with a small stick at a 90 degree angle on its top, to pop the fruit off the tops of tall sahuaros. They make wine and fruit juices and candy and jams from them fruit.  I have tiny fruit starting all over my nopal cacti in my garden. I shall have clouds of fruit flies soon. Yucky files. Yummy fruit. Sigh..............lovely photo, padre. Lovely.
