I couldn't agree more, Witchy

I just watched the head of Operation Rescue threaten our leaders that If Terry dies there will be hell to pay because they had been put in office because they supposedly supported right to life and were now going back on their promises...please...I think it is an affront to the dignity of Terry, Micheal and the family for their personal tragedy to be used for political gain. I am so disgusted.

Goddess, I so agree with you.

You've written a great and powerful post.

My heart goes out to both Michael Shiavo and the Schindlers, but I am on her husband's side in this.  I have read everything I could find on the net (there are numerous websites dedicated to both sides of the issue) and as much factual material as I could find.

I, too, feel Michael Shiavo is going through this as a measure of his love and committment.   It's my understanding that Terri's heart stopped because of a chemical imbalance brought on by possible Bulimia, and she was resuscitated.  There is an issue there that people aren't talking about, the resuscitation of someone too long gone to be revived to even a shadow of themselves.  But, that is another issue for another time.

Some well-organized information on this case can be found at http://abstractappeal.com/schiavo/infopage.html

What bothers me most about it, is that Terri Shiavo has become a political football and some sort of dividing line for America.   New labels are being applied or added to "conservative" and "liberal," with increasing viciousness on both sides.  The Federal government is spending money to implement a law affecting one person (we hope!).  Politicians are encouraging citizens to challenge courts' decisions over and over, and take the law into their own hands.  It's like all the anxiety and animosity formerly focused on the presidential election has centered on this one poor woman, and the storm is growing.

My wish now is for peace for those involved, and, like you, I'm hoping it is a wake-up call for everyone to express and document their wishes so no other family has to go through this agony.
